Design and display
In terms of design, the Nokia Lumia 610 is quite similar to that it’s ancestor, the Nokia Lumia 710. Available in a range of coloured back covers to add individual flair, the 3.7-inch touchscreen offer great user experience. The body of the phone is made up of glossy plastic body that gives solid look. In fact it is similar in look like a Samsung Galaxy S3 from the backside.
In the front there are three touch sensitive hardware buttons. The right side of the gadget you will find the volume keys, power button and two-step camera shutter button. On backside you will get to see 5MP camera with autofocus and LED flash. On the top there is a secondary microphone, micro USB charger port and 3.5mm headphone socket. The back cover is removable and the battery is accessible as well.
Nokia Lumia 610 comes has 3.7? LCD display with 480×800 resolution. With a pixel density of 252 pixels per inch, the screen is sharp even small text is clearly legible and graphics look nice and smooth.
Hardware
The Nokia Lumia 610 runs on Windows Phone 7.5, which is the slickest mobile operating systems around, and has the latest Tango update pre-installed. Windows Phone is based around the stunning Metro interface, which uses boldly coloured windows, called Live Tiles, high resolution background images and large fonts really stand out from others.
The Microsoft Live Tiles as the name goes come into life whenever you get an email, text message or software update. The text and email live tiles enlighten and show you that how many unread messages you have and the calendar tile at a glance tells you what your next appointment is. You can also change the layout of Nokia Lumia 610, for that hold your finger down on a Live Tile and it will pop up allowing you to move it elsewhere on the Start screen or delete it. And if you want any applications on the Start screen then select them and ‘pin’ them to the front page.
If you want more applications on your phone then you can use the Marketplace application. Windows Phone doesn’t have many applications like Android or Apple, but the Marketplace is the fastest growing application store and that most of the major players like Spotify, Flickr, eBay etc are covered. The phone comes with 256MB of memory so not all apps will natively run on the phone.
Software
Windows Phone Tango has been optimised to run on an older generation Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC with a 800MHz ARM Cortex-A5-class CPU and Adreno 200 GPU, and 256MB of RAM. Nokia Drive and Nokia Maps are two other great additions to the smartphone’s software set. After all, that free offline voice navigation can be quite useful. Detailed maps for over 100 countries and a variety of languages are available for download straight through the app itself. Last but not least, you get Nokia Music, which works a bit like an on-line radio with a good variety of music styles to choose from. But above all, it is sad to see that a number of pretty popular applications and games, such as Tango, Skype, and Angry Birds, are currently unable to run on the device due to its hardware limitations.
Camera
The 5MP camera isn’t that satisfying but at the same time it’s not too bad. It struggles in the areas where lighting is an issue, and at times uses the wrong white balance setting. There is a lot of digital noise present in photos, and the LED flash fails to fill the scene with light entirely. Unluckily due to the average specifications, the camera is only capable of recording 480p videos.
Storage and Battery
8GB of none-expandable storage is built-in for applications and media, which is plentiful for a device at this price. You also get 7GB of complimentary SkyDrive cloud storage. Thanks to the lower power requirement of the Snapdragon SoC as well as the operating system, that you can easily use the Lumia 610 for a couple of days on the same charge with light usage, or a day with heavy use.
Other features
Lumia 610 does feature WiFi tethering/hotspot built-in plus a new flip to silence feature. The call quality is brilliant with its dual microphone set up. Furthermore, the GPS receiver’s performance was stellar with both Bing Maps and Nokia Maps capable of getting an accurate lock seconds after launching. The phone comes in four different colors: white, black, magenta, and cyan.
