The need for high performance bikes in India has been increased drastically as the number of on-road and off-road bike enthusiasts have increased. Having given the fact, not all the motorcycles available in India are good in performance. The vehicles which have the expected performance levels are high in cost. So, the demand for enhancing the bike’s performance from its birth level to the next has increased in the recent past.
In general, people go for bike performance enhancement for street racing, circuit racing, drag racing or off-road racing. In earlier days, these performance enhancing materials and spare parts were not available in India either due to their high costs or lack of knowledge. The scenario has changed now, thanks to the ‘n’ number of bike freaks across the country wanting to know and get more.
Having the general discussion for too long is not good and let us jump into the core now. There are a few direct dealers and distributors in India who deliver these high performance parts in India namely K&N filters, Piper Cross, MSD Ignitions, NGK, DYNOJET, etc. Let us discuss part by part and the first one to come will be the filter.
Filters :
Air filters give the engine its much need air intake. ‘High free flow filters’ can be used to enhance free air flow. Factory fitted motorcycles have appropriate ratios for air and fuel. For example if a factory fitted bike has 3 : 1 ratio, it means 3 % of air and 1 % of fuel. If we fit a air filter with 6 % the fuel ratio should be increased to 2 %. This corresponding change will reflect in undisturbed, free air intake. Increasing fuel ratio can be done by re-jetting.
When it comes to re-jetting, the main fact to be kept in mind is that all Indian bikes are fitted with Mikuni or Keihin brand carburetors. This fact should be taken into consideration as the jets which you buy should match with the thread size of the carburetors. So according to the thread size of carburetor, buy the required jets from the market. Jets are available in market in high and low numbers and can be bought from local manufacturers too.
Burn your fuel :
The completion of re-jetting will give you motorcycle better air-intake and corresponding fuel intake ratio. Now, we have to find a way to burn the fuel which in turn will feed you motorcycle with speed.
Since the fuel intake will be at a brisk pace the fuel must be burnt at the same level. For the burning of the fuel, the spark plug, plug cable (ignition cable) must be changed and high performance ignition coil must be fed.
Exhaust :
After the spark plug, lug cable and ignition coil changes are done, the exhaust should be prepared appropriately. This is one of the fact which most of the people ignore, but it has major importance in serving the main purpose, which is a power enhancement of the bike.
A ‘high performance exhaust canister’ must be used in the vehicle according to the level of fuel re-jetting and fuel burning levels are done. If the fuel is being burnt at a heavier rate, the exhaust ratio should also be in the same level.
As the factory fitted exhausts doesn’t match this level, high performance exhaust canisters should be used to increase the exhaust capacity from ordinary level to high performance. TwoBrothers and Microns are the exhaust canister brands available in India.
The above mentioned sequential flow must (surely) be followed for good results. These steps satisfies your purpose without much external alteration work.
These modifications can be carried out without much of stress in the carburetor engines, but when it comes to EFI systems (electronic fuel injection), ECU remapping should be done. The lubrication part is also an important work to be done for the effective functioning of the spare parts.
Generally for high performance, synthetic oils can be used. Semi-synthetic lubrication oils can also be used. Here, the main thing to be kept in mind is the fact that some of the foreign brand oils will not suit the Indian bikes. Let us move on to the internal changes.
The clutch springs should be the first change to be made as it is the key in transmission of power to the engine. Since we have increased the power of the vehicle, high tension clutch springs should be used in order to coincide with the power level. Next comes the bore which should also get its efficiency boosted. A higher size piston will do the trick for you.
The last two steps will be the chrome plating on the cylinder bore which enables the piston to move fast. Finally the intake bore has to be increased to raise the intake level to next grade. All these will get you Indian bike turned to a high performance motorcycle.
How to Increase the Performance of Motorcycle,
